Right. So I'm a little slow on the uptake. Actually I still thought it was 2003 until earlier this week.
So the last ten years went pretty fast, judging by the fact that I am completely tripping that we've been out of high school for ten years. Let's see...After high school I went to undergrad at Seattle University as a Literature major, played soccer and took a year off to travel, one quarter in Africa and two in Europe. Good times. Then I worked as a paralegal downtown for a couple years (boring), while I paid off student loans and planned the next move. The last few years have been pretty good, I ended up moving to the San Juan Islands for a year, onto one of the outer islands without electricity or running water, or stores or roads. It was basically the 19th century, which left me without many distractions and a lot of time to write, which was why I had come. I came back to Seattle in January 2006 to accept a post at Richard Hugo House, a writer's organization on Capitol Hill, as one of their Writers-in-Residence. Then this last fall I moved to New York City to start the MFA in Creative Writing at NYU, where I still am, teaching undergrad poetry writing, editing a charity magazine, running little poetry workshops at St. Mary's Children's Hospital on Long Island, and writing my own poems. I miss Seattle dearly, especially the damn trees, but the literary scene out here is pretty amazing. I'm sorry I can't make the reunion because of teaching, I tried to figure it out but the students threatened to pay even less attention than they already were, which might put me out of job. Hope all is well with everyone, it's great to see so many of you happy (at least in the photos), and doing interesting things. See you at the next one!
Peace,
Bryan
